Dear Friends, Welcome to my new website created for me by the very talented Shanti Martin, who is my wonderful son. You can find my music here, track where you can join me for concerts or workshops, or invite me to join you in your community. I am so happy to have this new site, as now I have the ability to interact with you personally thru my blog site, exchanging ideas and inspirations.
This season’s blog theme is “Music as a Healing Tool.”
Please write to me with your personal experiences, sharing how music has healed you or others. For myself, music has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Since I was a young child I have loved to sing, and often sing to feel better, expressing my wonder of creation and cultivating more joy. I especially love to sing with others, feeling the vibrations of the sound penetrate and heal our hearts, shifting emotions, clearing blockages, activating joy and group harmony. I have noticed that it takes at least a few songs before the energy gets harmonized and synchronized and everyone drops their shyness. Using the breath and voice opens the lungs and heart and frees the mind from daily concerns. If you are feeling sad, sometimes singing the blues is helpful. More often using songs with uplifting lyrics and melodies as affirmations, including composing your own lyrics, which express your feelings, can really help liberate your spirit.
I recently experienced the great loss of my beloved Father. I was able to be with him during his last days. He was suffering greatly from difficulty breathing, pain and fear. I sat with him and my Mother and got out my guitar and started singing songs of healing, hymns and familiar melodies that he liked. After about 30 minutes of singing his struggling body began to relax. He began breathing softly, his body calmed down and his spirit became calm and peaceful. He fell into a restful sleep. We sang to him for about 2 hours until he was totally at peace. He slept the night and made his journey to the other side the next morning. I was so grateful that I had been able to sing for him. I saw the true power of Music as a healing tool.
I invite you to reflect on your own healing experiences with music. Please share your stories with me. Also if you are searching for a song with a particular theme to help with healing, share this with me. I may be able to help you find a song to address that situation. I give thanks for all the support I have received from many of you, encouraging me to keep singing and sharing music. Looking forward to hearing from you.
